We know, based on Predator 2, that the pistol is retrieved in one way or another. I think it’s just as (if not more) likely that this moment was meant as a sort of epilogue. While I think in the age of modern blockbuster filmmaking, it’s fair to assume this was meant as a substitute for a mid-credit sequence, teasing the future. But, at the very end, after the drawings show Naru receiving praise from her tribe, they show multiple predator ships emerging from the clouds seemingly ready to attack. As the initial credits roll, the events of the film are recapped rather creatively, with drawings depicting everything. ![]() The moment that people have pointed to more as a tease for a sequel is stuck in the credits sequence. But I think that following Preywith another film about the Predators retrieving the pistol to tie up the Predator 2 moment would be stretching the concept a little thin. It’s entirely possible that they put the Raphael Adolini pistol in the film as a tease for a sequel. Some people have interpreted some moments or details as some sort of tease for a sequel. I worry that, given just how well-rounded Preyis, any attempt to create a follow-up would fall flat or feel forced. It’s a very cut-and-dry piece of storytelling. Naru (Amber Midthunder) and her companion Sarii (Coco) in Prey. ![]() By the time the story has reached its end, that is exactly what she’s done. Naru ( Amber Midthunder) is clearly defined from the beginning of the story as someone who wants to become a better and more well-respected hunter. ![]() One of my favorite attributes about Prey is just how tight it really is. Raphael Aolini’s gun: what it meansįirst off, I think it’s important to make this much clear: Preydoesn’t need a straight-up traditional sequel. But, before such news inevitably drops, I think I want to put my piece out there about what I think a sequel should look like. With a more than enthusiastic response to the Predator prequel film (you can read my review here) and Hulu declaring it the greatest premiere in the history of the service, news about a potential Prey sequel is heavily anticipated. At the end of the film Naru still has the pistol in her possession, which naturally begs the question, how did the Predator tribe get it from her to later give to Danny Glover almost three hundred years later? Luckily Prey's animated end credits set up the next adventure, teasing the arrival of more Predator ships to Earth.Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey movie has finally been released, giving the Predatorfranchise much-needed revitalization. The use of the Raphael Adolini 1715 pistol in Prey not only firmly plants the movie as being in continuity with the original films but also sets up the potential for a Prey sequel. In Predator 2 the pistol is meant to show the history of the Predators on Earth but its place in Prey seems to be setting the stage for another movie. After killing the City Hunter in a battle aboard his ship, Danny Glover's Detective Harrigan is given a prize by one of the Elder Predators to celebrate his kill, a flintlock pistol with a brass plate that reads "Raphael Adolini 1715," the same pistol that Naru uses and takes with her in the events of Prey. Let's rewind to the conclusion of 1990's Predator 2. When you just read the name it might not mean much, but hardcore Predator fans should recognize it. That trapper a man by the name of Raphael Adolini. Naturally that doesn't exactly work, but that scene also reveals on of the trappers has a bit of a change of heart and works to help Naru, especially after all his friends have been massacred. Eventually Naru is captured by the trappers who go on to use her as bait to lure the Predator in for the kill. Not only is Amber Midthunder's Naru forced to fend off an alien trophy hunter from another planet, but a group of French fur trappers are also making their way across the land, and killing just as indiscriminately as the Predator. Spoilers Follow!Ībout midway through the events of Prey a new threat emerges. If you assumed as much about Prey though, you'd be wrong. Prey however is set in 1719 in the Comanche Nation, not only making it a franchise prequel but making the potential for its connectivity to the other movies seem unlikely. Most of the films in the series at large have been set in the present day, with sequels like Predator 2 and The Predator taking place in the city and the suburbs, respectively. ![]() When Prey was officially revealed to the world it came with a surprise, the next Predator movie would dial back the clock and be set hundreds of years in the past.
